Works of Art

This cake was based on the painting 'Sweet Dreams Baby' by the famous pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.  The customer adapted the design, wording and some of the colour to suit the occasion of his 50th birthday.

The cake was to cater for 100 people and a vanilla sponge was baked measuring 20" x 10".  This was layered with vanilla buttercream and jam and covered with white rolled fondant icing.

The painting was recreated using layers of coloured
sugarpaste and piped black royal icing to recreate the bold colours and thick outlines used by Lichtenstein.
The Ben Day dots used to represent the flesh were cut from an edible image which was pasted onto the rolled icing and cut to shape before being decorated.

The first picture shows the original painting by Lichtenstein and the
following pictures show the cake version!

HARRY POTTER BOOK COVER - This cake was made the same day that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released in June 2003 and donated to a local school- this was the first edible edition!  Again, a vanilla sponge cake, covered with rolled fondant icing and then decorated on top with royal icing in varying shades which was brushed to give a slight raised effect.

These chocolate eggs were decorated with fondant and used as personalised place settings for a dinner party!  Just supply me with photos of your guests and I'll create an edible caricature for you!
